Reluctance by a neighbouring State to release river water has allegedly left many agricultural regions in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu reel under drought.

Several agricultural and farmers associations have raised their ante against the authorities for their 'failure' to take appropriate steps to get the water released.

This seems to have inspired director Raja Mahesh to churn out 'Thambivudayaan', a movie that throws light of the sufferings of farmers in delta region of Tamil Nadu.

'Thambivudayaan' is about a youth, who is pained by the travails of farmers going hammer and tongs to get the due share of water from the neighbouring State. How he convinces the State machinery to take steps to release water forms the crux.

Thambivudayaan (Adhitya Anbu) is a college student and his father is a Panchayat chief (Nizhalgal Ravi). They are good samaritans and help the peasants who suffer a lot as a result of drought.

Thambi's grandfather (Charu Haasan) is a freedom fighter, who ends his life unable to see spate of suicides in the village due to poverty. Thambi resolves to bring an end to the issue.

State Minister Velayudham (Kadhal Dhandapani) who hails from the district turns a blind-eye to the sufferings of the people. Thambi chalks out a plan to fight the Minister.

He kidnaps the family of the Minister and bargains with him that he takes steps to talk to the Central Minister and release water from the river. Whether he succeeds in his attempt or not forms the climax.

Adhitya Anbu has rendered a decent performance. He suits the role of a rebellious college student. He fights and dances well too. Dhandapani is good as a baddie while Nizhalgal Ravi and Charu Haasan do their part well.

Debutante Manisha Chatterjee plays the heroine and she has performed her role well, considering it to be her maiden venture. Sharavan's music is racy but loud.

On the whole, the film's knot is good. But the director's deviation from the core issue to concentrate on the heroics of the male protagonist and other commercial elements is the eye-sore.
