Around 977,119 school kids vaccinated against Hepatitis-B: says official

Provincial Manager Chief Minister's Initiative for Hepatitis Prevention and Control Programme Sindh, Dr. Abdul Majeed Chhutto informed here on Friday that out of six million targeted school-going children around 9,77,119 have so far been vaccinated against Hepatitis- B.

Giving details, he said out of 9,77,119 school going children, 75243 were vaccinated in District Matiari, 56650 in Jamshoro, 50231 in Tando Allahyar, 77684 in Dadu, 79133 in Badin, 114930 in Hyderabad and 36186 in Tando Muhammad Khan.

In Karachi Region, he said 45942 school going children have so far been vaccinated in Liaquatabad Town, 18660 in Gulberg Town, 50007 in North Karachi Town, 19807 in North Nazimabad, 18727 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, 21610 in Shah Faisal Town, 37173 in Jamshed Town, 37040 in Korangi Town, 31298 in Landhi Town, 17559 in Baldia Town, 10166 in SITE Town, 29504 in Orangi Town, 13885 in Keamari Town, 31272 in Saddar Town,32812 in Lyari Town, 32812 in Malir Town, 14402 in Bin Qasim Town and 29361 school going children have been vaccinated in Gaddap Town.

He informed that Chief Minister's Initiative for Hepatitis Prevention and Control Programme Sindh in collaboration with the provincial health and education departments has launched a vigorous campaign of Hepatitis Vaccination to six million school going children in all districts of the province. It is first time ever in the history of the country that such a massive campaign against hepatitis has been launched only in Sindh on the directives of Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, he said.

He informed that billions of rupees are being spent under Hepatitis Prevention and Control Programme aimed to protect the people of the
province against hepatitis and motivate them to adopt precautionary
measures against the deadly disease.

Besides treatment of Hepatitis-B and Hepatitis-C, Dr. Abdul Majeed Chutto informed that Hepatitis Prevention and Control Programme Sindh achieved the task of hepatitis vaccination all over Sindh particularly in the remote parts of the province where the rate of hepatitis is high due to non- awareness of precautionary measures against it.

After accomplishing different tasks in a successful manner, he said that the Programme in collaboration with the provincial health and education departments has started vaccination between six million male and female school going children with objective to prevent the disease at an early stage. Besides students, teachers are also being vaccinated
against hepatitis, he said.

He informed that in the first phase of the campaign, vaccination among students is being carried out in 18 towns of Karachi and schools of Hyderabad Region. The vaccination against hepatitis will be started soon in the schools of Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana Regions.

He informed that in order to collect the data of vaccination among the students, the Programme has also set up a control room in its
secretariat where the concerned staff is closely monitoring the
vaccination campaign.

Dr. Abdul Majeed Chutto appealed to the teachers and parents of students to extend their full cooperation so that Hepatitis Prevention and Control Programme could be able to root out hepatitis from the
province.
