28 militants, eight soldiers killed in Pakistan clashes

At least 28 Taliban militants and eight soldiers were killed in two major clashes with the Pakistani security forces near the Afghan border, Xinhua reported Sunday.

A two-day military operation jointly launched by the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, police and the air force in Mohmand Agency Saturday, left at least 25 militants dead. Four soldiers were also killed and eight others injured, the the army said in a statement Sunday.

Three more militants and four soldiers were killed Sunday in a clash at a check post in Mohmand Agency. The fighting started when militants attacked the check post. Thirteen security personnel were injured.

Officials said Taliban militants from Afghanistan have recently launched several attacks on the border check posts. About 40 securitymen and civilians were killed in earlier similar attacks in less than a month in Pakistan.
