A group of young people in Egypt who had taken part in the anti-government protests that led to the ouster of president Hosni Mubarak, has announced that they are forming a new political party.
The group will seek to bring the protesters’ demands to reality by political activity, Hamdi Baha el-Din, one of the group’s founders, told Egyptian news agency MENA.
The members will follow legal procedures to start the party after the March 19 referendum on constitutional amendments, Xinhua reported.
Cairo’s High Administrative Court approved Feb 19 the first Egyptian party with an Islamic background – Al Wasat – which had been seeking a licence since 15 years.
Egypt’s largest political opposition, the Muslim Brotherhood, is also preparing to establish a political party named Freedom and Justice Party, according to a statement on its website.
Mubarak stepped down Feb 11 after 18 days of anti-government protests and moved to the resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
