Afghan security officials say a suicide bomber has attacked an air force bus in the capital Kabul, killing at least four people.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement that the attack early Wednesday killed four officers and wounded five others. But army Gen. Kadamshah Shahim said two of those killed were civilians working for the air force.

Ashmat Stanikzai, a Kabul police spokesman, said seven people were killed, including civilians, and another 16 were wounded. In the chaotic aftermath of an attack it's often not immediately clear how many people were killed or wounded.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, with a spokesman for the insurgents, Zabiullah Mujahid, confirming that the air force bus was the target.
