Sathyaraj is one of the most voluble atheists in the industry.

He never misses a chance to spoof on Hindu Gods and religious practices (pray why Hindu Gods alone?).

Anyway, for a confirmed atheist to get a chance to play Periyar, iconoclastic social reformer of the 40s and 50s in Tamil Nadu, is a dream come true.

And Sathyaraj has got the chance as he has been cast as Periyar in a film of the same name to be dircted by the award-winning Gnanarajasekhar.

Sathyaraj is obviously thrilled and says it will be a challenge to don the role.

Though he has invoked the names of Ben Kingsley (of Gandhi fame) and Mammooty (of Ambedkar fame), it remains to be seen whether Sathyaraj is up to it.
