Silambarasan, who appeared a lot subdued in his last film Kovil, is back doing what he knows best -- acting as a typical hero in Kuthu. Silambarasan is up to his usual antics. Playing the role of a carefree youth, Silambarasan once again takes to copying Rajnikanth.

The movie is a typical 'masala' entertainer featuring Silambarasan as a daring youth, who wins the heart of a girl, who happens to be the daughter of a dreaded gangster. A remake of the recent Telugu hit Dil, Silambarasan figures stunt sequences and dances gleefully to peppy tunes.

The movie seems to be made keeping the front-benchers in mind. A debutante Ramya plays the female lead opposite Silambarasan. The granddaughter of Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, the heroine has got nothing to do in this flick other than oozing glamour.

Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani plays the negative role (as Ramya's father). Being portrayed initially as a dreaded villain, he turns out to be a joker in the end. Actor Karunas has succeeded in providing comic relief. Vijayakumar, Illavarasu and Manorama are also in the cast with both actresses Ramya Krishnan and Mumtaz dancing for peppy numbers.

The movie is about Silambarasan, who falls in love with Ramya and incurs the wrath of her father. Whether Silambarasan succeeds in marrying Ramya, with the help of his college mates, forms the rest of the story.

Srikanth Deva's tunes (he is in fact music director Deva's son) are catchy though familiar. The re-recording especially in stunt sequences is jarring.
