Kochadaiiyaan Review

Story:

Kochadaiiyaan is a colorful epic saga of an Army Chief with title name [Rajinikanth] continued by his son Rana [Rajini again]. Kalingapuri and Kottaipattinam are the two rival kingdoms ruled by Jackie Shroff and Nassser respectively; Rana is declared as the chief commando of Kalingapuri and is sent on mission to attack Kottaipattinam along with his army. There he unfolds the story of his father and becomes the hero of Kottaipattinam. Go watch 'Kochadaiiyaan' for the brilliant climax...

Performances:

More than the performances, motion capture technology played the main lead in the movie that appeared bit animation in parts, but overall gives you a feel of good watch.

Superstar Rajinikanth's roles where it be Kochadaiiyaan or Rana were gloriously portrayed in the film. Rajini's dubbing, mannerisms and what all his fans expect from his movie are well framed.

Director could have similarly concentrated on other important characters too. Mainly the roles of Deepika Padukone, Nasser, Sarath Kumar and Shobana appeared dry, as they missed lively expressions of eyes.

At the same time Kochadaiiyaan's team has to be appreciated for bringing down late Nagesh. His character is pictured well and the person who has dubbed for the veteran actor has to be appreciated.

Technical Analysis:

Soundarya Rajinikanth takes the honors of bringing Motion Capture Technology to India. Definitely she has made a best debut with Kochadaiiyaan in her career. But being the first photo-realistic film it has a few pros and cons that need to be concentrated much.

KS Ravikumar stands as pillar with Rajinikanth's support. The director has put all his experience together for Kochadaiiyaan and has scripted wonderful screenplay and dialogues for the film.

AR Rahman's music worked wonders for Kochadaiiyaan. With two oscar winners Rahman and Resul Pookutty, Kochadaiiyaan BGM induces goosebumps in fight sequences, particularly Deepika's stunt sequences and the Shiva Thaandavam snippets. Especially the end cards are one to watch out for. . Engae Pogudho Vaanam and Medhuvaagathaan are aply placed.

VFX works are at their best for 2D version, where as 3D is totally a cartoon show though makers have tried their best to pull out the needed stuff with Rajini's mannerisms.

Analysis:

Above all, Kochadaiiyaan is nothing but a debutante filmmaker's dream to introduce new technology to Indian Cinema. Beyond the story, screenplay, music, Kochadaiiyaan is a new attempt and come back of Rajinikanth, a brand of style.

Coming to the narration, first half seems to be okay as you need to adapt to the technology and second half is absolute fun with a package.
