Vettaikaran 2009 Movie Reviews

Vettaikaran 2009 Review

Racy entertainers and Ilayathalapathy Vijay are inseparable. Much like Rajinikanth, Vijay’s films also are hero-centric and have all the ingredients to please the masses from 6-60 years. Fiery action sequences, colourful songs, romances with one of the most beautiful heroines in town and not to forget the fans loving punch lines.

AVM Productions’ 'Vettaikkaran' is also joins the list of those fast paced hard core action movies of Vijay.

Vijay is a young do-gooder who wants to be a police officer but is forced to change his course and take on the very goons he wanted to eliminate wearing the uniform.

Ravi (Vijay) is in Tuticorin. He aspires to become a cop like police officer Devaraj (Sri Hari), his role model. After great effort, he manages to pass plus two and he joins a college in Chennai. During the course, he meets Suseela (Anushka) and falls for her instantly. Thanks to her grandmother, he succeeds in wooing Suseela. In Chennai he takes up his studies in a college and also earns his living plying an auto rickshaw. It is here that his life takes a turn.

He comes across a baddie Chella (Ravishankar) who tries to play spoilsport in the life of his classmate Uma (Sanchitha Padukone). Ravi bashes him up. His troubles start as Chella's father Devanayakam (Salim Ghouse) with the help of greedy police hatches a conspiracy to kill him in a special encounter. It is now a cat and mouse game between the two. And it leads to a predictable climax.

Babu Sivan, a former associate of director Dharani does in 'Vettaikkaran' what his mentor is known for. Fast moving scenes which leave no time for the viewers to think what happened just a few seconds ago.
It is to be appreciated that Babu Sivan has played safe in his first film. Having a mass hero like Vijay the director has dished out a real pot boiler.

Although Babu Sivan is yet to come out of his mentor’s shadow the first attempt is brave. He also scores in dialogues. For a change most of the punch lines in this film are convincing and tolerable.

It's Vijay show all the way. From start to finish, he goes all guns blazing with amazing energy levels. Be it an aspiring cop, a romantic youth or an angry young man, he is right there delivering best what he did in his earlier ventures.

Anushka, who intimidated with her earlier movie 'Arundhathee', plays the routine heroine role in a mass hero action movie. She appears in very few scenes and two song sequences.

Salim Ghouse who wasn’t seen for a long time in Tamil impresses as the ruthless don and a rich entrepreneur Devanayakam. Shayaji Shinde plays a negative character of a police officer who changes later.

Though Vettaikkaran seems to have heavily borrowed from many movies, the racy narration makes you hold through.

Music by Vijay Antony is peppy and groovy. All the songs are worthy hits.

Produced by AVM Balasubramaniam and B Gurunath and presented by Sun Pictures, 'Vettaikkaran' is an out and out action movie Vijay fans would lap it up..
