Puri Jagannath, who had associated with noted directors like Ramgopal Varma and Krishnavamsi, turned a director with 'Badri'.
Later he proved himself a successful director with films like 'Itlu Sravani Subrahmanyam, Idiot, Sivamani, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, Pokiri and Desamuduru' and is now one of the top directors in the Telugu film industry.
Being himself in a top slot, he generally portrays the characters of the heroes in his films in the same range. Though his films like 'Andhrawala and Baachi' failed commercially, the hero's characterisation in those films were proved successful.
When asked what was the reason behind it, he says, 'I love the character of Veerinaidu in 'Nayakudu' film. In fact, I am inspired with that character so much that almost all my hero characters would reflect my motto. They will never face any fear and they have only the guts which is a must for a hero. Likewise, I re-used the innocent dialogue 'Nenu Chanipothe Neevelaa Bratukutaavu' in 'Padaharella Vayasu' film, in my movie 'Idiot'. You know, we have to rewrite the old stories in a novel way. We just can't create new stories.'
