'Ranam' is like any other Gopichand's film. It doesn't have good storyline but gives great entertainment. The storyline where a hero from village taking on the rowdies from the city is not new, but Gopichand's superb performance and villain Biju Menon suave presence has made all the difference to the film. It has a slice of glamour from Kamna and laughter from Ali and Venu Madhav. This two and a half long film promises lots of masala entertainment.

Chinna (Gopichand) is a cheerful and fun-loving man from village. His family sends him to the city for higher studies. But problems begin after he runs into a couple of bad guys belonging to gangster Bhagavathi (Biju Menon). Meanwhile, he falls in love with Bhagavathi's sister Maheshwari (Kamna Jethmalani) even as Bhagavathi is trying to do ride of him. You have to watch the film to know the rest of the story.

Hero Gopichand's manly look and style of acting has made the film a good one though the story is not new. Villain Biju Menon's performance is another highlight of the film. He has opened up a new avenue in playing the role of a gangster. Kamna is beautiful in the film. Chandramohan, Ali and Venu Madhav have done their job well.

Mani Sharna's music is fine as far as the film is concerned. There is nothing special in the camera work though the fight scenes are very good. Director Rajasekhar has taken the safer way by not resorting to anything novel. It is his first film as a director after trying his hands in dance. He has succeeded in making an entertaining movie.
